A Day Full of Joy: Summer Family Day 2026 🌞
On Saturday, May 9, families gathered at Smokey Glen Farm for one of our most joy-filled traditions—Summer Family Day.
This is a day where families of children with cancer could come together, reconnect, and simply enjoy time with one another. This year, we were thrilled to welcome 118 amazing participants—families, kids, and friends—alongside 49 dedicated volunteers who helped make the day so special. From the moment families arrived, the day was filled with laughter, energy, and meaningful connection.Â
The day kicked off with a variety of hands-on fun. Families gathered around the tie-dye stations, transforming pillowcases, bucket hats, socks, and t-shirts into colorful creations to take home. Nearby, bubbles floated through the air while kids ran from one activity to the next, trying their hand at mini golf or joining in on friendly games of basketball, volleyball, and soccer.
As the morning excitement built up appetites, everyone came together for a big lunch. Families enjoyed a delicious spread of BBQ ribs and chicken, hot dogs, fresh salads, cookies, and plenty of sides—sharing meals, conversations, and laughter along the way.
With full stomachs and recharged energy, the fun continued into the afternoon. Kids gathered around to get their faces painted, request balloon art, and sit patiently for personalized caricatures to remember the day. Music filled the air as the DJ got everyone moving at a lively dance party and hula-hoop contest. Others took on a new adventure—soaring through the air on the zipline.
But beyond the activities, what made the day truly special was the sense of community. Old friends reconnected, new friendships were formed, and families had the chance to spend quality time together in a space where everyone understands and supports one another.
Events like Summer Family Day wouldn’t be possible without the incredible people who give their time and energy to make them happen. We are so grateful for our volunteers, board members, and community partners—including Deloitte and the Good Counsel High School Football Team—as well as the talented artists and DJ who helped bring so much joy to the day!
The fun doesn’t stop here.
We have more opportunities ahead—starting with Under 7 Day on June 6 at Frying Pan Park, followed by our summer camps: BRASS Camp (July 12–18) at Camp Maria Retreat Center and Camp Fantastic (August 2–8) in Front Royal.
We can’t wait to see you there—and continue making moments like these, together.
