Four years after its development during the COVID-19 pandemic, Special Love’s Virtual Online In-home Camp Experiences (VOICE) Program is still going strong! This year, the team at Special Love, with help from our friends and sponsors, was able to deliver five exciting virtual programs to children with cancer and their families who often experience the isolation that comes with a cancer diagnosis. With almost 250 registrants, these programs covered a wide variety of topics. Keep reading to learn more about this year’s VOICE programs.

Valentine’s Cookie Decorating

Attendees joined Special Love staff and our friend, Gina Parcells, for some sugary fun at this virtual program. Staff conducted a Valentine’s Day themed trivia game, and participants were guided through decorating festive, heart-shaped cookies. Don’t spend too much time looking at the photo below, or your stomach may start growling!

Virtual Chain Making with RAAM Team One Life

Special Love staff and VOICE attendees were joined at this session by our friends at Team One Life. Our special guests shared about their upcoming Race Across America (which they later wound up winning, by the way), and they guided us through decorating paper chain links. They later linked the chains together, making a complete chain that they carried with them cross-country.

The Wonders of Weather

Our friends at the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum (SVDM) joined for this session to help us discover the wonders of weather through hands-on weather activities and experiments. We got to make instant snow, tornados in a bottle, and a rain cloud in a jar. Thank you very much to our friends at the SVDM for providing supplies for this program!

Squishy Circuits with SVDM

Our friends at the SVDM returned for this exciting and informative virtual session. Participants explored basic circuits and electricity through conductive tape and LEDs, while also using their creativity to make light-up pieces with conductive modeling dough. Who would’ve guessed that Play-Doh could teach physics?

Holiday Cookie Decorating

Ah, the Holidays… That time of year when mom might let you eat a festive cookie for breakfast. Following the popularity of our Valentine’s Cookie Decorating earlier this year, Special Love wrapped up 2024 with virtual Holiday Cookie Decorating.
