Rolling the Dice for Love: Special Love Gala Raises Over $200,000

On Friday, September 19, the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner came alive as nearly 300 guests joined us for the 2025 Special Love Gala. This year’s Casino Night theme brought an extra touch of sparkle and excitement to an already unforgettable evening.

The evening would not have been possible without the generosity of our sponsors, especially our Diamond Sponsor, Daniel Housing Corporation Emerson House, and our Platinum Sponsors, Quantum Real Estate Management and The Yuen Foundation. The event was expertly emceed by Special Love Board Member and NBC4’s Chuck Bell, who kept the energy high as guests tried their luck at the casino tables, bid on exciting silent auction items, and came together to support Special Love’s mission of providing camps and programs for children with cancer and their families. Thanks to the incredible support of our sponsors, attendees, donors, and friends, the Gala raised more than $200,000!

Our Executive Director, Elena Jeannotte, took the stage to deliver a moving speech about the power of Special Love and its impact on the families we serve. Her words underscored why this community comes together year after year: to ensure that no child or family faces cancer alone.

Honoring Generosity and Legacy

A highlight of the night was the presentation of the Circle of Love Award to Koo and Patricia Yuen of the Yuen Foundation. Their enduring generosity has provided countless opportunities for families to experience the joy and healing of Special Love’s programs. The award was presented by former Executive Director Jan Bresch, making the moment even more meaningful as we celebrated both the past and future of Special Love’s mission.

Stories That Inspire

The heart of the evening came when our community heard directly from the young people who know the impact of Special Love best. Adlee Boreum, a BRASS camper, shared how his time at camp has shaped his life and supported his family. Later, the Jaleela and Asna Traore took the stage to reflect on their experiences at both Camp Fantastic and BRASS Camp, bringing laughter, tears, and applause from the audience.

A Record-Breaking Special Appeal

Another highlight was the Special Appeal, led by Dave Smith and Chuck Bell. Their heartfelt call to action inspired guests to dig deep, and together we raised nearly $50,000 in just minutes — far exceeding our goal.

A Celebration to Remember

The evening closed on a high note as guests filled the dance floor, led by DJ NuLife Malcolm Jones — a former Camp Fantastic camper who generously donated his services. His music kept the crowd energized until the very end, while the casino tables buzzed with guests playing with Special Love “funny money.”

More Than Just a Gala

Beyond the chips and cards, the Special Love Gala was about hope, healing, and community. Every dollar raised ensures that children with cancer and their families have a place to find strength, joy, and connection through our year-round camps and support programs.

We are deeply grateful to our sponsors, donors, volunteers, and friends who made this night possible. Your generosity allows us to continue saying “yes” to families when they need it most.
