Fall Fun at Virtual Octoberfest Family Day
Special Love families kicked off the fall season with a day of virtual crafting, painting, and glow-in-the-dark fun!
Octoberfest Family Day kicked off in the morning with a pumpkin mosaic class led by Mizz Mosaic, who has become a regular at Special Love’s virtual programs. Evelyn (above left) was one of many kids who decorated their pumpkins with colorful tiles and then finished them with grout to create a long-lasting keepsake for their fall décor.
Counselor Nora Carfi joined us in the early afternoon to teach “broccoli painting,” where kids like Anna (above right) dipped pieces of fresh broccoli in orange, red, yellow, and brown paint to create portraits of beautiful fall foliage. The results were amazing (see below)!
We had time for one more craft project in the afternoon and long-time volunteer Holly Senn helped the camp families create a fall wreath (like the one above center, which Holly turned into a centerpiece by adding a candle).
The day concluded with a Glow Party courtesy of DJ Nu Life (aka former camper and now counselor Malcolm Jones). Each family received a pack of glow sticks and glow glasses and was instructed to create a “glow stick person.” The result was multiple video frames of “glow people” dancing to DJ Nu Life’s sick beats. Special Love’s VOICE (Virtual Online In-home Camp Experiences) continue through the rest of the year and include a Parent’s Getaway and virtual Santa Chats. For more information, visit https://specialove.org/events.
