Winter Weekend – 2020
What winter woes? Our winter has been wonderful!
Another terrific Winter Weekend is in the books! Great weather at Bryce Resort in Basye, Virginia provided the perfect place for a wide array of fun winter activities such as skiing, snowboarding, tubing, games and roasting marshmallows over the camp fire. It also gave our teen campers and young adult cancer survivors a chance to rekindle camp friendships.
. Our “rustic” lodging was provided by Shrine Mont, a retreat center in Orkney Springs, just two miles from Bryce Resort, allowing us to spend the entire day Saturday on the slopes and in the lodge playing board games, cards or having a little music jam session.
Shrine Mont opened up their recreation hall to us this year, which allowed us to gather the entire group on Friday and Saturday nights allowing us to stage get-acquainted games, a trivia contest, and a chance to catch some football on TV.
Bryce Resort provided all the meals, including a big breakfast on Sunday morning that sent us home with full and happy bellies. They’ve become such a valued Special Love partner, always looking for more ways to provide entertainment for our crew. This year let us set up a video gaming area in their newly-remodeled food area within Shenandoah Center.
By increasing the upper age limit for YACers from 25 to 30, we were able to welcome back a half dozen former campers who are now once again eligible for our programming.
